Gerber makes good knives and are made in the US.

Even though they SAY they are (or at least certainly imply as much) on their website, they all aren't. Just ordered some that were China made. Still worth what I paid though.

Benchmade all the way! Made in USA sharpen for free and lifetime warranty. Check out the griptrillian line, I've been carrying one for 7 years.

I was thinking 30-40 bucks, somewhere in that ball park? You know he is a youngster so something "cool" but I want it to last as well.

Right. It seems that all the major brands have some that are US made and some not. I think the Buck Bantam line was made overseas but they pulled the manufacturing back here. Some are USA, some not. Benchmade is all US made... as of 2010, not so before

Side note: Dead giveaway for a foreign designed/made utility knife.... wine opener. lol
