So Traffic stopped in SC at exit 22 on I20. Where the traffic was backed up to there was a small trucker rest area. I decided to stop and wait it out. After 30 minutes I decided to take a nap.
I was awoken by a County Deputy telling us we had to move on as the wreck was a hazmat wreck and would take till morning to cleanup.
However I was five miles away, and traffic was rerouted some five miles behind me. I was directed to dive over the bridge shown in the video, and past the wreck scene, where the truck ran off. The whole area was evacuated (stores and parking lots empty, and only rescue personnel were in site no cops blocking the area or anything. All those people in the video were gone.

Looks like they evacuated nearly a twenty mile radius? For a relatively small spill?

I figure if it was that bad they would not allow anyone to drive within feet of the truck.

I just wonder how many kilotons it was expected to yeild?

One news source identified the product as methyl acetate which is a solvent commonly used in glue, paint and nail polish remover.

While it is a highly flammable liquid, it can cause respiratory irritation with short term airborne exposure. Airborne exposure risks seem to be related to longer exposure rates of higher concentrations for 8 to 10 hours.

In short, driving by the site has a relatively low health risk but sitting at a rest area for many hours breathing nail polish remover would not be good.

One news source? And I know that stuff, it dissipates very quickly. Twent mile radius is a bit of an over kill. Especially as there was no leakage.
