Governor's Gun Club-Kennesaw. 1st Impression

Ive shot at the Powder Springs location and i go in every now and then to look around. Out of all the gun store ranges i probably like Governors the most, ive yet to meet the "know it all know nothing" that is usually behind the counter at all gun stores. Their prices have never seemed any higher than any where else and it has a good atmosphere. Im not big on indoor ranges but they do a good job of making it as pleasant as it can be.

During their opening weekend, the FMJ membership fee was 1/2 off. My wife wanted to go and check it out that weekend, and decided to join... NOW I have to go nearly every weekend to make the range fees worth while :becky:... somehow I'll suffer through it...
  • And yes, they let you collect your brass if you ask.
  • The 100 yd range has the weirdest echo I've ever heard. The range is actually 3 tunnels underground, shooting through concrete tubes.
  • The FMJ and High Brass memberships are the only ones that let you into the lounge, where you can enjoy adult beverages AFTER you've finished shooting for the day. The menu is interesting, a tad pricey, but quite tasty. They have 2 pool tables where you can continue "shooting" after having an adult beverage, and the outdoor balcony is cigar friendly.
  • You do need close toe shoes to shoot, my wive forgot this point and they actually gave her a pair of socks to cover those toes so she could shoot... (since is was her b'day party).
  • The over-all helpfulness of the staff was exceptional.
Bottom line, yeah pricey, but a very nice place to spend an afternoon...

I went yesterday as well, shot 2 rds of 5-stand plus 2 rds of trap. The pistol ranges were nice, didn't look at the rifle ranges, nice (but expensive) retail store, and they have a 'smith on site. The shotgun range is rinky-dink; there is one large room for 5-stand or trap, only one game at a time. Also, there are lots of beginners there. There are only 6 traps for 5-stand, instead of 9 or 10. If you are an experienced shotgunner, you won't like it. A/C wasn't working well in there, so it was really muggy. Also, very expensive: plan on spending about $1 per shot since you have to buy their (overpriced) steel shells.

I went to the Kennesaw location to check out their specials on the green egg. Guy at the door was nice but the gentleman who was actually tasked with getting me delivery prices etc was bad. I waited over twenty minutes for him to come back with delivery information because I planned to purchase that day. I went to look for him and he was in the back of the store laughing with another employee. He was clearly not interested in making a sale because the store was not busy. So I left and won’t be going back. I cannot speak to the quality of the range.

Been by the powder springs location but yet to shoot it or the Kennasaw location. Gonna have to load up and least check them out some time .

Looks interesting. Might be a good place to sight in a rifle (no wind).

From the pics it looks like they just have a steel backstop, so I'm not real surprised they limit ammo types, although the list is longer than usual. Their range, their call. Same for 'lost' brass.

Very much 'country club' pricing for the memberships, but I'm guessing that place cost a fortune to build.

You could always build your own $10,000,000, fully equipped, air conditioned, multi-weapon range, and shoot whatever you like. If it's going to remain open and a worthwhile venture for the owners, they will need to make a profit. That's how it works.
Exactly. Their facility, their rules. No matter what rules they choose to implement, there will always be someone bitching. Thanks.
