Great Sword

Forget about traditionally made swords unless you want a cheap knock off this is basically useless or are willing to spend many thousands of dollars on collector quality. The Cold Steel blades are of modern manufacture and are very high quality, sharpness and strength.

Oh yeah, they will hold an edge pretty well, too. LOL!

Here is one I customized for my son on his 15th bday. Middle pick shows 15 grooves which are on both sides of the grip. Do not have an engraver so the date is just done with a diamond bit on a dremel.
This is made from a Munetoshi Tactical Wakizashi.
(scales are layered tan and black G10 and pins are tubular tan micarta.)

Blade forging is totally different than how knives are made. They have to survive direct blows on edge, so you really don't sharpen most of the blade.
Several good choices listed already, but here is a mid-priced contender from Sabersmith.com. 2.5 lbs and well balanced with a lifetime repair/replace warranty. They come in several sizes; this one has a 25.5" blade, with OAL of 35.5"
