"Gun control" talking to a buddy in Toronto

This morning we were talking work topics, then we got into rights and guns etc.
He is pro gun, served in the Canada militia (kind of National Guard) .
He said years ago he didnt understand why we (not all of course) Americans were so adamant about not compromising one inch on gun rights. He now understands that it will never end until we are disarmed.

He did say he following, which spurred a bristle from me.

He said well you would likely agree to keep all guns in a sage or trigger locks if it stopped there, right?

I said hell no! Never.

I said think of this, your air bags in the vehicle are locked, if you are about to have a wreck you can quickly unlock the air bags before the crash.

I'd have no problem keeping all the guns I'm not using locked in a safe.

Guns I am using, like the one on my hip that I carry for self-defense, and the one I'm using as my nightstand gun - no - because I can't use those when the need arises if they're locked in a box.

And can they import Russian ammo?

Its strange they can get things we cannot but have many very restrictive rules.

We have given up too much already here in the USA

They have given up far more.

SVT40 in Canada

SVT-40 is currently prohibited in Canada. Following recent amendments to the Firearms Regulations, the SVT-40, along with many other firearms, was reclassified as prohibited. This means it is no longer legal to own in Canada unless it was previously registered as an "assault-style" firearm before the prohibition came into effect.

Elaboration:

• Recent Prohibition:
  In December 2024, the Canadian government announced a ban on certain "assault-style" firearms, including the SVT-40.
• Amnesty Order:
  An amnesty order was put in place to allow current owners time to comply with the new regulations, but this order is set to expire on October 30, 2025.
• Non-Restricted Remains Legal:
  While many firearms were prohibited, a large number of non-restricted firearms, such as those suitable for hunting and sport shooting, remain legal to own with the proper licensing.

Canada’s a huge, sparsely occupied country without physical boarders, many islands and a LOT of fresh water.. prime for loosing stuff due to boating accidents

I love the former Blue State gun owners I meet here. They want you to believe they are conservative because they own a gun, or guns; Yet they are always willing to compromise. They can't recognize their life was spent, and their political development occurred in a democrat city. Moving to FREE America doesn't make gun owner pro second amendment. My first question is, are you an NRA member. The answer is always some BS excuse. BUSTED!
