I’m having a detached garage/shop built and have at least one safe that needs to go in it.
It’s not going to have power for a few months but I need to bring down one of my other gun safes. It is fireproof. The building is not insulated and will not be climate controlled. I’m thinking I could load it up with desiccant pouches to keep moister down.
Anyone else do this with some do’s and don't?

Let them air out good (if going from say a cold basement to a 75 degree shop) just so theres no chance of condensation. And slick’em up with your choice of oil before storing.

I have one of the bigger dehumidifiers that you plug in to a wall once it soaked up as much as it could. Have my safe out in the garage and it seems to do very well. Only takes a couple of hours to get it dried out when it’s full.

No power? Gonna build garage with hand saws you say

Run a long extension chord and use a plug in dehumidifier.

Golden Rod consumes less than 1 amp, so even a 400 foot extension chord from Walmart will be fine.. power for couple overhead lights too :thumb:

‘keep your gunsafe 2 or 3 inches above concrete though.
I will be running power and water to it soon. But it will not be climate controlled.

You can usually find these at the dollar store. I buy a case at a time. One lasts about a month in my garage safe.
