Gun workbench depth

Going to be building a workbench primarily for weapon cleaning assembly etc.

what is your recommendation for depth. I am thinking it doesn’t need to be desk depth of 30”, but I could be wrong

will be 7 ft long

If you can go 30" to 34" deep, DO IT!. You'll be glad you did the first time you're working on a shotgun action or rifle.
 
I like 24". I've made several benches over the years. Take a couple sets of workbench legs from Woodworkers Supply, cut a 4'x8' sheet of 5 ply 3/4" marine grade plywood in half lengthwise and sandwich, install a 1"X8" backsplash and three 1X4X1/2 on the bottom part of the support. Then brace with a diagonal and wrap the edges with 1/4"X2" slat wood.

Cabinet space and drawers are nice but there's no place to put your feet or support them when you're at the bench on some of the more cool looking designs. Pictures shown here are my cluttered tool bench. The gun bench I have is in another big room and is a double sized version....4X8 with workspace all the way around.
