Lucky me had my Bank call today to ask about some suspicious charges. They have done this several times before and it has always been a false alarm, but not today! Turns out some douche in Ohio managed to get my debit card information some how and has gone on a spending spree with my hard earned money. I'm so lividly angry now, Obviously I had the card frozen immediately and I get to go to the bank in the A.M. and attempt to get this garbage sorted out. I was completely unaware that people stole debit card info as well, I know credit card fraud is fairly common. Has anyone had any experience with debit fraud? I do have to say though that despite how ridiculous this is and how angry it makes me I have to give some props to my bank for how they have handled it so far. According to my statement the fraudulent charges started on the 21st and I got a call the next day so they are clearly watching out for me. Ill post tomorrow about how They want to go about getting this resolved.

Here are the charges This person made.
$160 at crocs.com
$255 at bloomingdales.com
$340 at vitacost.com
$170 at oldnavy.com
and $165 at an old navy store in Grove City, Ohio

Most banks and credit unions now are awesome with this stuff. I have had my card "hijacked" a few times and my CU shut it off before I even noticed. The only frustrating part for me was that I couldn't get my money when I wanted or needed it.

They are using location and activity based fraud protection/detection. Mine stopped a $236 at Rite-aid, but let me spend $1k at the gun store. Gotta love when they get it right and know what I spend my money on.

its easier to use a stolen debit card info then credit card info, my debit card info was stolen before i caught them at the first $20 purchase they made and got my money back then canceled the card and got a replacement.

get a replacement card with a different number after you get it straighten out. i haven't had any thing taken out of the account since i got the new card

Had my card info stolen as well. Was glad when the bank called and didn't mind the hassle of getting a new card. I got my money back but it took a couple weeks. I was lucky that the charges were small. In fact thats how my bank knew something was amiss.

I have a single credit card that I use for nearly all my purchases, then I pay it off each month. I've had that credit card jacked twice in ten years; I don't use my debit card for anything other than ATM withdrawals. In the old days, banks were a little douchey when it came to debit card fraud; I'm old-school in that I use the credit card.

I prefer this method, because if I'm compromised, the bad guys aren't getting real money from me, only credit, and at the end of the day, I still have access to my "real" money with no worries. Also, worst-case scenario, if the credit card company IS difficult with the situation, I can elect to not pay those fraudulant charges and the worst that happens is they sue me three years later and blackflag my credit report. If my actual bank account is compromised, I'm actually out of pocket, worst-case.

Anyway, that's my paranoia.

Happened to me, too a few years ago. Chase isn't very good with that. 10 hoops to jump thru to prove it was fraud. I actually ended up taking care of it.

Its happened to me twice. It takes aboit 48 hours to fix but don't sweat it. One of the pitfalls of our electronic, wireless age.

As another poster said, Chase sucks with this but I use bbt now and they have the money back in 24hrs.

I use American express for all my purchases and avoid using the fake credit card/ bank card as Clark Howard calls it, you have very little recourse with the ATM card! While ax will back you up with everything
