Ham Radio Operators

Working on getting my lic. now. Shouldn't be much longer till I take the test. I know alot of hammies hate it, but I do love talking on 11 meters. It's where radiostarted for me and I love it. Less formal, but chock full of morons.

Moonpie, hit me with a pm about some equip. I love buying, selling and trading radio "junk" as I do firearms.

My antenna came down last week in that wind storm. It might of had someting to do with that 100' oak tree falling down on top of it. I miss HF.

I need to get out there soon and string one up. I have been to busy clearing yard debris.. I have never tried a magnetic loop but have heard some decent things about them. I like dipoles myself. After years of building and buying magic all band HF antennas I have come to realize that a resonant dipole at freq is as good as I need it.

Howdy.
New HAM as Tech class in 93.
Upgrade to general (no code) in 2008.
HF opens up the world.
Kenwood TS-480 100 watt model does well for me. Signal link for digital modes and even CW (cheating I know but tone deaf ears would not let me master code).
Primary antenna is a cobra design modified for 160 mtr's. ~1300 feet of wire in the air in a 300' span between trees. Works on the Sunday HF ARES net very well. Very little DX'ing but good signal reports when I do. Beats the G5RV I had up.

Bought a TS2000 and a Comet vertical due to some antenna constraints. The antenna wasnt in stock but should be here Monday.
Is there any other "Radio / Parts" stores other then HRO? Pretty good haul for me (I dont like to drive)

Sounds like you have your act together pretty good with the antenna building.
I was into that with vhf when I first became a ham.
I just make time for the emergency nets for the last couple of months due to my ham shack/reloading bench area all piled up due to some remodeling.
Maybe another month or two before I get back to DX'ing.
Will look back at this thread to PM you in a month or so to see what activity there is.
Thanks for the shout back.
