anybody on here knowledgable about this topic as to where i can send ya a few pms with some questions?
im interested in this topic and have a few questions i need answers to.
how-to questions. where to study for my license on the web. used radios just to toss around and learn on
before i buy a good one. just a few more general question and a few spacifics lol. maybe im on the wrong site but
figured i would ask here first.

I can answer some of your questions. I work HF and do not carry any of the baofeng radios or use 2 meter or 440 radios. I have a General Class license and have had it for 40 years. I use mostly CW (Continuous Wave also known as Morse Code) since I did that in the Air Force. Buying used gear can save you money but you can buy a new radio with all the bells and whistles for less than $1,000. There is a Ham Fest (major swap meet coming to Cobb County in a couple of months and that is always a good place to pick up used gear and to take license exams and just to rub elbows with other amateur radio operators.

A lot will depend on what you want to do with the hobby. Chat, experiment with electronics, learn new skills or prepare for emergencies or doom days. Drop me a line and we can talk or post your questions here and others will join in.

Here's where I studied for the General and Extra tests: http://www.hamradiolicenseexam.com/index.html

I had the tech long before on-line study and testing was available. My first suggestion is there are other radio services (GMRS, maybe MURS, FRS, CB) that are more suited to "emergency only" interest because they require no license or only a pay-for license.

Ham is about experimentation. If you just have curiosity about radio, that's where you go, but don't expect it to solve prepper or family commo issues unless everyone else is on board.
