Happy Day! AC bought the farm! Whee!

When I bought my two-story house it had one single, inadequate system. I had it split into two new systems upstairs and downstairs. The problem with putting new systems in at the same time is that they wear out in about the same time. I babied them along for several years beyond their life expectancy; "Come on, just charge it back up and maybe the leak is slow enough that it will get through the cooling season one more time...".

Back in March, I completely replaced heating and air for both upstairs and downstairs. (Which explains why I haven't been able to buy any guns recently!) I got near top of the line Lennox stuff that they call "communicating" equipment. The fancy wi-fi thermostat, the furnace and the ac unit all talk to each other and I can control it all from my phone. Put it in "away" mode to go on vacation; on the way home, a couple of hours out, remotely set it back to normal and things are just right when we get there. Pretty slick. Not to mention the $1000 rebate on each system and the $300 tax credit to come.

Oh, and just in the last couple of days I had the bizarre experience of my thermostats updating themselves from the network and sending me an email to let know about the update.

we went through that a year ago don't remember the exact price. we went with a hybrid unit gas/electric it wasn't cheap but it is cheaper than the ole worn out one as far as cost of heating and cooling. stuff just don't last like it use too wasn't but 25 years old lol

Yeah....I was told by one guy that I needed to replace the whole system in my house. The trustworthy guy I know replaced my condensor fan for about $200 bucks or so. That solved the problem.

I've had parts replaced and/or freon added for two years in a row. I'm really not all that surprised. It's they unit that was put in when the house was built so it's 12 years old and it's been getting a little louder outside lately. The new one should get me through the rest of my mortgage at least any way. Or till I sell the house, whichever comes first.

LOL@ your sig line MMatt30!

Get that sucker serviced twice a year and there is no reason it won't last 30 years. Congrats on the purchase.

Thanks. My favorite feature so far is the 0% financing. And never let anyone tell you that there is no cosmic sense of humor going on. My daughter turns 21 next month and the child support stops. Just in time to pick that up will be the AC payments. Well, actually the AC payments are $28 less than I'm sending my ex-wife. But never fear. In todays mail I got my annual mortgage analysis and the mortgage payment is going up $35. What's up with THAT? LOL!

I would be careful with the 21 year old daughter comment around this group.
