OK, maybe I'm the only one with this issue, but I suspect not, so just in case this helps anyone....
I've got a 10/22 (metal trigger group, no extended release) with a Hogue stock. Love the gun love the stock. I can't remember if I had the same issue with the OEM wood stock but it's a female dog to get the mag out and I bust my thumb knuckle religiously (and then utter very UNreligious things). I finally had enough and thought "this just isn't that hard". A little fine grit sandpaper on the side of mag didn't do what was I hoping, but what DID do the trick after that was a little dry graphite rubbed on the side. Now she drops out the way God and Misters Strum and Ruger intended!
