The scammers create a new account like "Cat_Herder" or "Cat.Herder" and send a message pretending to be you asking for unsecured funds up front. Note the small difference in the name. You have those 220 positive feedback based on years of treating people right and the scammer uses this stolen ODT valor to their advantage.

Looking at things closer, you are not communicating with who you think you are. Underscores _ , periods and spaces matter in usernames.

I’m not buying anything except when I see it in person.. unless I know that person ahead of time.. there is a few here I’d send money to.. but most everyone else will have to meet up

How do the scammers get your phone number?

Check previous posts to be sure your phone number is not listed in public.
The scammers have programs to scrape these websites looking for any information they can use to scam.

If it doesn't show up as one of my contacts, I don't answer. Then I block and report as spam. I imagine it does no good
