Has anyone had this surgery?

Try to keep this short. Was having intense pain in my feet at various times. To the point I couldn't bear to even put a shoe on much less walk. Usually lasted 1 or 2 days. Last attack lasted almost 3 weeks. Managed to get by in a walking boot. Tested for gout but that's a negative. X-rays show that I have no cartilage in the first joint of either of my big toes so from time to time a nerve will just flare up and then agony. Doctor says if there was such a thing as toe replacement surgery I'd be a candidate. 😂 Anyway orthopedic surgeon says cortisone shots in a toe is a no go. The surgery is fusion of the toe joint. Won't affect walking as I am now wearing an orthopedic insole that isolates the toe and keeps it from moving. Anyway question is has anyone had this surgery and what was your experience? Thanks for your patience reading this and your time in answering
I had one foot done a couple decades ago, the other one I just let ride until the nerves died. Surgery will take all in all, about three to six month to recover, each foot.

Both are the same now. I cannot say if you will have the same result.

Well the surgery is set for 7/9. I appreciate all the input and the well wishes. And yes I am among the older crowd. Lots of time on my feet and plenty of hard use. Feeling pretty confident in this surgeon. Thanks again everyone!

Well the surgery is done! Pretty pleased at this point. Pain is manageable with just otc Tylenol. And I will say the post op pain of having the toe split open and the metal installed is way less than the pain I had during flare ups. That'll give you an idea of how much that inflamed joint/nerve hurt. Anyway thanks again for your time and insight.

If they can fuse a spine and neck vertebrae, I don't think a toe will be hard at all.

It sounds like you got some good docs though. And you seem to be in good spirits here ! That is a really good sign .
I am sure you got this thing whipped and under control ! Everything will turn out great 😊

Hoping for your quick healing. I know what you mean on surgery pain. I had my right hip replaced a few years ago. Pain from the surgery was way less that what I dealt with all day every day. We earned the senior discounts.
