Hello to all my deer rifle enthusiasts…

Your 270 with a 130 grain core lokt is the ticket for any deer size game on the planet. Why mess around and change a good thing!? I run everything from 110’s to 150’s in my 270 depending on when and why. 110 grain sierra pro hunters with zero recoil on coyotes and when the youngins get on the trigger for deer or 140gr SST’s if you want long rang DRT performance on bigger deer size game. Ammo will typically be in stock anywhere ammo is sold and nothing else does what it does as efficiently for the price point considering loads started development 100 years ago. Don’t get me wrong I love me some .308, 6.5 Swede (the OG 6.5), 7mm rem mag, 30-30, 30-06 etc… but none of them do as many things as well as the 270 does.

As someone who consolidated years ago as well, I am very glad I did. However, just be aware that .308 and 6.5 CM don't kill deer nearly as effectively as your .270. Expect to have to trail a few, and I suggest driving the front shoulder in most situations. Don't get me wrong, they both kill, but they are not the DRT calibers that .270 and 25-06 are on whitetails. You will be OK as long as you understand what you have.
Interesting. Did not know that.

Great argument for the 270! Can’t wait to read all of the rebuttals.

"Emotion and personal preference are really what it comes down to.
If your daddy or granddaddy was an .270 man, then that’s probably the cartridge for you. If they liked the 270, then you’ll probably like it better as well. Emotion does not help a cartridge shoot or kill any better, but when two cartridges are close in performance, emotion might matter most. Pick the one you like, proclaim it the best, and ignore everyone else. There’s a 50% chance you’ll be right.

I’ve always liked the 308 Winchester. In fact, practically speaking, if the job at hand is too much for the 308 Winchester, you’re going to need a hell of a lot more then a .270 or an 06"
