Help dating Hi Power

Can anyone give me any information on Browning Hi Power ? Looking for dating info (if possible) - Mfg. date, Ship Date, etc., ?

I recently inherited it, I know it is pre- 1980's .....other than that, I'm lost. It does have the ugliest set of Pachmeyer grips on it I've ever seen. I will be needing a set of woods for it. Or something besides these!

any idea/link for some decent grips? This old police mans duty weapon has seen many days, it appears. After I get her cleaned up and all, and take care of surface rust and flaws, I plan on getting a decent set of sights and grips on her too!
