Cylinder 16's didn't have a ribbed barrel but I've seen em with a ribbed barrel before...make sure it's a "sweet" and not a Cylinder 16 with a vent rib barrel.

WELL I DID FIND THIS SITE THAT TELLS IT ALL. http://barrybroom.com/gun/gun%20manufacturer%20date%20sheet.pdf

LOOKS LIKE WITH A SERIAL NUMBER OF 70S96915 MEANS MADE IN 1970 S STANDS FAR SWEET 16 AND 96915 IS SERIAL NUMBER

I think you're right. This is off the browning site.

76In 1969 Browning started using two digits for the date of manufacture which was followed by a four digit code that identified the type of Auto-5:
M=standard weight
G=light weight
This was then followed by the serial number beginning with 1000.
Example: 69G1000 = A 1969 Auto-5 Lightweight 12 ga.. shotgun with a serial number of 1000.M-standard weight
G=light weight

Assuming they forgot to list that S= sweet 16 its dead on.

It sounds like the markings on the one you're looking at match up pretty well with what's on mine. How much is he asking for it?
