I was with my Dad today. He showed me this revolver which he mentioned was a Colt. I have no idea what model or year it may be. I looked everywhere for a serial but didn't notice. I may have overlooked it. He changed out the grips back in the 80s so those are not the original. Any idea what model and time frame it may be? He received it from my Brother's great grandfather. It looks like an officers model or new service. 38 special.

I'll get him to check tomorrow. Are they worth much?

Would be worth a decent bit more with original grips. Just from the pictures it looks refinished/reblued, but that might just be the glare from the photograph fooling my eyes.

If it locks up tight and if I were looking for an older .38 revolver, I'd pay $200-300 depending on condition. That's ignoring any potential collector's value, and I'm not a Colt collector so I couldn't go beyond that. It's probably worth more than $300 to a collector.

If the barrel markings have been polished off, it has zero value as a collectible.
It may be worth $300 as a plinker or loaner gun for a newbie's first home defense firearm.
I have a 100 year old Colt Army Soecial, and it works fine as a casual range fun gun. The sights are too small for action -combat shooting, though.

Also look under the grips on the butt to see if it has a "W.F.&Co" stamp. That's be Wells Fargo, which might add to the collector value to some., but not a lot to others.
