Help troubleshooting Jeep issue...

If lights dim when you turn the key then the car is sending power to the starter but the starter is not engaging ( just a shade tree mechanic so I could be wrong) but like I said try hitting the starter at the same time someone is trying to start the Jeep.

Bingo.... the starter has failed internally. Hit your local auto parts and pick up a new one. Pull the old one first, so you can match it to the new one and the auto parts may want it for a core.
There is a possibility you have a bad connection causing the same symptoms, check your cables and make sure your connections are clean and tight.

Turns out to be the soloniod...I convinced it with my convincing tool and it works agian.

I was told to bridge the negative battary cable going into the starter and the one for the soloniod...if nothing happened the soloniod was dead if it sparks and turns its not dead. It sparked and didn't turn so I was told its stuck and needed to be convinced to be unstuck.

Was also told I would be needing to buy a new one soon so there it is.

Would your convincing tool happen to be a hammer like object? lol

This is why I like the ODT. Humans being Humans... Well for the most part anyways.

Thanks for all the tips everyone. ..thats the nice thing about these old Jeeps...if you find whats wrong it's usually a pretty easy fix. Just every once in a while you need to learn some new words to express your discontentment.
And yes..now that you mention it my convincing tool does have some rather striking similarities to a hammer like tool.
