Might it be a 1903 Springfield chambered in .30-06?

both Remington and Springfield built 1903 and they looked alike--chambered in 30-03 then later changed to 30-06- look under fineoldguns.com under us longarms about the third one down-----good money in the orginial condition

1903 Springfield action, but like many others have said, that doesn't mean it's still a 30-06.

For example, I have a custom rifle that was given to me by the gunsmith I used to work for. It has a Mauser action, but a .308 barrel from a Rem 700.

Have a gunsmith look at it.
