Is anybody familiar with High Standard M1911 A1-FS? I recently purchased one and find that the thumb safety (I think it's Willson Combat) which is installed on it does not fit properly. It doesn't seem to go down all the way when the safety is off positioned....making it ride up a bit every time for me and puts the gun on safe when I want to pull the trigger. Safety wouldn't go all the way down for the detent to slide into the dimple where it should sit. Basically prevents firing for me when I want to fire.
Looks like slide gets locked up if the safety is up a slight millimeter without even being engaged. (Which could be very dangerous if the hammer strikes the primer but the slide gets locked up; could blow the whole pistol apart). I took the whole mechanism apart trying to find the problem and see that even if I shave some metal off the safety part it will still not fit correctly. Does anybody knows what thumb safety I'd need to purchase to make it fit this particular model?
I hope I am making sense out of this. 1911s are new to me, but it looks like this is the problem with it.
Thank y'all in advance.

You need to change your grip. Your firing grip has your thumb UNDER the safety. The upward pressure from your thumb is pushing the safety UP.

Instead, use the thumb safety as a rest or shelf for your thumb. Your thumb should keep downward pressure on the safety will it's in the FIRE position.

This is as far as the thumb safety allows to be pushed, and it is very loose going up. I get the point about keeping the thumb on top of the safety lever, but I thought it supposed to lock in place instead of being so loose.

It is plenty low enough to work properly, as it appears in the pic.

It should "snap" into the up position, and "snap" into the down position. Some are snappier than others. I have seen plenty of safeties that didn't have that positive "snap" like they should.

It's more than possible that the fitting of the safety, or more than likely it's relationship to the plunger and detent, aren't as good as they could be. No way that anyone can diagnose the issue properly over the internet.

I disassemble it and it seems to me that the safety piece just does not fit properly...the cut of it will not even allow it to go down enough for the detent to"snap" into the "dimple" part of the thumb safety. Therefore I'm asking if anybody knows which specific thumb safety part I can buy that will fit for this model M1911 A1-FS....is anyone if familiar with it.
It's difficult to explain what exactly is going on, but it's a mechanical fit that will not work.

I really appreciate your effort on helping me out sir!

No thumb safety will just drop in and work properly. A 1911 thumb safety has to be fitted to that particular gun.

It’s possible that the safety you have already can be properly fitted.

The majority of the fire control group and safety mechanism in 1911’s have to be hand-fitted to each other. It’s not a job I recommend for a novice, or even a lot of gunsmiths. I recommend finding a competent 1911-smith in your area and having them correct the issue.
