I posted this on GON so figured I would bring it here also. Do any of you guys have any home invasion stories or incidents involving a firearm? What measures have you guys taken to protect yourself and your family if a robbery were to occur at your home?

Whether you shoot someone to steal their TV set or you shoot someone to prevent them from stealing your TV set, you still killed someone over a TV set. I wouldn't want that on my conscience. I once was forced to present a firearm in order to defuse a situation involving an aggressor with a knife (drunk family member). Thankfully discharge was not required.

That's a good point looking at it from both sides. However you never know what that persons intentions are besides just stealing a tv set. As far as I'm conscerned, they're in my home when I know they shouldn't be and they know they shouldn't be.

LOL! Really?

I don't care if I left a trick-or-treat size bag of Skittles sitting in plain sight and someone kicks my door down in a desperate need of a sugar fix. If you invade my home for one Skittle it would never "haunt" me to plant you. I sincerely hope I never have to pull the trigger on anyone but whatever reason they use as an excuse for breaking into my home is obviously justification enough to them to risk their life, and being inside my home is justification enough to me to end it.

There are no two sides to a break in that are both justified. If you break in, you get shot. Period.

I once had a man beating on my carport door at 0200..i awoke, grabbed a S&W revolver and went to the door.My back door has windows in it about half way up so i can clearly see that the man was obviously Very dunk and Very pissed off and yelling i need a ride...
I have quite often given people help at all hours of the night for various reasons if they broke down out in the country where we lived..but something just absolutly told me NO.I wasnt about to leave my home and family to go out and deal with a angry drunk..so i just simply said.No..Leave.
He starts yelling louder.."I need a RIDE!!..I repeat.No..leave now!!
Thats when the turning my door knob and kicking my back door started, at the 3-4th hard kick my door actually moved..and he yells "I want a GD ride!!and gets ready to give it kick #5.
My wife had gotten up and come into the kitchen..even though my instructions to her were to get the kids, get a gun and get to a safe place..so as the drunk is kicking my door i yelled to my wife to call 911...

I had had enough of this drunk and enough of the abusing my back door and didnt really know what would happen if he gained entry.

So i stepped back, put the .357 Smith barrel in the window glass,a mere inch from his face on the other side of the glass and calmly and clearly and of a forceful Clint Eastwood voice said....Kick that door 1 more time and die right where you stand..his eyes got REAL big!!..I said "Im about to KILL you graveyard dead....NOW LEAVE!!!

He turned and RAN..And RAN..AND ran!!..i waited a minute and went out onto my carport and i could hear his tennis shoes/boots or whatever he was wearing Slap..slap..slap..as he was making tracks and RUNNING fast down the highway in front of my house.

The police came out and interviewed me and told me that they had been getting calls about this guy for the last 1-2hours,it seems he had been beating on doors up and down the roadway and becoming more and more violent at each house..
the old man and woman next door stood by and watched him kick the grill out of their car because they wouldnt give him a ride.

Moral of this story?..
1.the gun STOPPED this home invasion.(period)
2.dont go drinking and become a a**hole, your friends will drop you off out in the middle of nowhere.

I am glad i didnt have to fire my weapon..but im damn glad i had it.
