Honoring All Great Electricians Here on ODT

Remember a penny in the socket of a screw-in panel fuse??? In my grandpa's house where I lived my early years he got an upgrade to the shack from REA and got a whopping big 60 amp panel with them. Had light bulbs in every room and he got an electric oven. Still had to use well water and the outhouse, though.... He had a big potbelly stove that burned anthracite coal and a fireplace in the big room for heat...
Our old house at Tybee had a circuit box with two of the old round 15 amp fuses in it. Grandpa got tired of buying fuses (the overloads ate them like candy mints) and did the trick with pennies in each circuit.
Wiring was old cloth covered knob and tube individual wires. Use of electric space heaters in the winter were what usually caused the fuses to blow. We also had a potbelly stove for heat, burned coal when we could afford it, scrap wood when we couldn’t.
