Hot Water Heater question Help Please

Embarrassed to say but turned out to be a bad shower cartridge. Replaced it and have scalding hot water again.

But as far as the 14 year old heater yea I agree in replacing. But we are doing so after the first of the year and going to a gas tank less.

I just needed to get by until then as we will be doing a total bathroom remodel then.
