In the words of Hoyt, "not too good".... Went something like this...
Loaded the rifle and went to the stand Sat morning, saw two deer, both behind me and I couldn't get a shot. Went back to the stand Sat afternoon and took my limb trimmer with me and cut a few limbs. About 4:30, I had a doe walk under the stand, and I settled in on her and pulled the trigger. Plink, no bang!!! Primer went off, powder didn't ignite. WTH?? So with the doe 30 yrds out, I pull the ram rod check that the load is seated (again) and put in another primer in time to see her walk out of sight. NOW, I AM LOOKING FOR ANYTHING TO SHOOT! After 15 minutes or so, I hear a sound behind me and look to see a limb (bush) shaking like heck. I get ready and out walks the biggest fattest armadillo I have ever seen. I let him close in to about 35 yds and touch off the old CVA. So, I have my first confirmed kill with the smokepole... Not too appetizing tho'!!
After that, I was so disgusted I just got out of the stand and went home.
I saw a small buck but it was while I had my gun leaned up against a tree, my pants down and in a hunkered down position....I would have passed him anyways...just kind embarassing having him watch me go potty.
