I hunt everything is the State of GA, or after I get my gator tags this year I will have officially. When it comes to deer I am in woods 2-4 days a week! Turkey is about to get fired up WOOT WOOO!

You a vegan Van? If not that last burger didn't die of old age brother. :) Absolutely respect anyone's opinion that doesn't hunt but if it's because you perceive it as 'cruel', well don't ever visit a slaughter house. Heck I don't eat veal because of that. :p I wish all the meat I eat was free range hormone free like that which I hunt.
Van, remember 'dominion'. Here you go brother. http://www.openbible.info/topics/hunting
And hope you don't view any of that as you 'catching hell'. :)
Behind every hamburger there is a gutpile, some people just don't like to think about that part though!

I wish I could extend invitations to all of those that have never been, would like to go because it is not just the killing(harvesting) of an animal. It is the distraction from everyday woes, the quietness of nature, the fresh air, and the fellowship of kin and friends that makes the experience. The real work begins when the animal is down, when done right it is laborious and quite detailed. There are thousands of nuggets of knowledge as one is ever learning new facets associated with the SPORT and culture. Hunting is a way of life and a culture that was at the outset of this nation, was abused, then conserved and without hunters efforts in the conservation, contribution to the economy, taxes, fees, licenses...etc, this country is better off because of the "hunter". Any other "do-gooders" can report their data and see if it measures up to the contributions of hunters(and fisherman) in preserving the habitat, the animals...etc in this country. Hunting is not for everyone, you have to be a "student" to become proficient at it, sitting in front of a feeder for the first time with a gun that you have never shot-anyone can get lucky but to consistently be successful and safe takes discipline and dedication. My .02

There is no hunting like the hunting of man, and those who have hunted armed men long enough and liked it, never care for anything else thereafter.

Amen Stuckon, I went bow only for 6 years, the feeling of bringing your dinner home with a bow is unbeatable. Last year I broke that record and brought a gun out just because meat needed to be put in the freezer. The feeling of watching the sun come up and the woods come alive or a foggy morning is something can not be beat! It is a feeling that cannot be described it can only be done! Been hunting for the last 18 years of my life and I love it more each year!

This thread kind of freaks me out. I wonder how many of those that don't hunt have a bug out bag at home? If crap hit the fan and the infrastructure failed to get those steaks to your local grocery store how exactly would you provide for your family or yourself? I don't think hunting is just something you can walk into. It takes time to hone the skills necessary to be successful at it. In addition, the skill of preserving your meat is not a read it and do it process; it takes trial and error. I do understand that small game hunting takes the level of difficulty down somewhat (Squirrels and some birds.). However, the ability to bring down deer, turkey, and other big game yields a lot more meat, and in turn ups the chances of survival. If everyone is only hunting the small game they'll become scarce fairly quickly. I'm not really trying to cause an argument; just shed some light on why some of us hunt.

I don't hunt or fish mainly because I do not need another hobby. As far as what i'll do when the SHTF, I plan on simply shooting my unarmed neighbors first and putting them on the grill. :smiley that means I am joking, somewhat:

I've got an emergency kit in the car. I've got food at home ( including a freezer full of deer meat and quite a bit of canned meat as well). Several of my family members hunt, and I've been several times myself. I don't hunt because I don't enjoy it. You don't have to worry about all of us being helpless. If we all hunted, there wouldn't be any room in the woods.

in the last 10 yrs i've hunted twice. once my rodeo, hunted down this vicious asshole deer that refused to avoid crossing the road at night (yeah i know, the nerve of that jackwagon). the other time, i had to go out to a buddy's property and clear it of hogs. shot a total of 3 hogs in 12 hrs
