How much is too much?

I just got a Ruger Redhawk .44 Magnum with 4 inch barrel. The cylinder seems a little loose. How much wiggle/slop is too much?? This is my first Ruger in .44 Magnum. Thanks.

Ones I have shot, the cylinder locks up pretty tight. They were longer barrels but that shouldn't make a difference.

Are you checking it with the trigger pull all the way back?

I guess it's too much if the firing pin doesn't align with the primer when the hammer is fully back. If you're hitting the headstamp area of the brass, you've obviously got too much slop. Fortunately 44mag has a pretty big primer.

Too much is if you're shaving lead when you shoot.

Yep, I'm checking it with trigger pulled all the way back. I just got the gun and have not shot it. It was sold to me as ANIB.
