old fan had 4 cables.
new fan comes with a remote and an adapter with cables of different colors. it is not plug&play.

any ideas to bypass the remote and control it from the switches?

You will only use one switch now that you have a remote to control your fan and light. Just wire nut the extra wire and tuck it inside of the box. You will probably want to change out that dimmer switch to a normal light switch. If you want to get fancy, remove the unused switch and replace the cover with a switch/blank combo.

my two cents.........the neutral for the fan is contained in the remote. The three speeds for the fan are also contained in the remote. The light could be bypassed to run off your switch on the wall but the fan would only have one speed unless it has a pull chain switch built into the fan which I don't think it has. The best idea for me would be to use the remote and wire it like the diagram instructs you to do.

I recently have installed 2 of these in the house, which i had wired for fan/light like you. I'll be installing a 3rd one at my sister in law soon....... bright light, crazy air flow, stupid quiet.

i would hate to have empty switches all over the hkuse. all the fans are like that. my old house had some blank switches and it doesn't look good. but if i cant use the remote then how can i change the light temp if i do t like the default?
