How to fix a ar15 lower wit broken trigger gaurd ?

Is the trigger guard broken or the area that it attaches to the receiver? Pics of the damage would help.

My son aluminum tig welded one on for me that I broke off several years ago and after a little filing and sanding spayed it with aluma-Hyde flat black paint and it looks great.
