How was the 1911 designed to be carried

No, when I used to have a leather holster I would cock the hammer as I drew the weapon. I dont even try with the serpa. I carry condition 1 now

Just a note.
The original statement was a question of DESIGN INTENT, not CARRY INTENT. The 1911 was designed with Condition 1 carry in mind. That was the statement that I made in the CZ thread - "The 1911 was designed to be carried cocked and locked". I was told I was wrong.
As has been proven by the statements that John Browning added the thumb safety to the model 1900 so that the cavalry wouldn't shoot their horsed during the draw leads me to believe that they were carrying cocked and locked. Therefore, I stand by my statement that the 1911 was DESIGNED to be carried cocked and locked.

My personal experience carrying a 1911 was back my Coast Guard days in the 70s and early 80's then we carried 1911s always loaded chambered and in the half cocked position no matter what and never had one go off in anyone I ever knew whether we were jumping on drug smugglers boats in the middle if the night or some foreign fishing trawler. We always joked that whenever some new guy would ask why do we have to carry half cocked? Someone would always say because half cocked is what your gonna be when it goes off in your holster! I've never carried one since then. I've had a few and love them but it's to damn big to stick in my pants walking around in comfort to me.

That's exactly what I said in a previous post, compression and decompression is what wears or weakens a spring.
