Guy’s looking for someone that’s had shoulder replacement close to deer season maybe 6 to 8 weeks before and how did it affect your season. Trying to schedule surgery before a two week Kentucky hunt. I’ll have a 3 month leave from work and was thinking maybe I could hunt the last month. Is this doable.

I wouldn’t recommend it. Is this your first invasive “replacement” surgery? I have had two in the past. Not shoulder but spinal fusions. I would wait until you are a few weeks in to recovery before you make that decision. Listen to your doctor and physical therapist. Dump the meds as soon as tolerable, it slows down the healing process. Remember it’s just a damn deer. You have to use that shoulder everyday.
Gotta agree with Edog on this one. Wasn't me but one of my good friends had shoulder replacement surgery and his full recovery took a solid year. And he obeyed all the doctors recommendations. From what he told me, there are 3 shoulder replacement surgeries. His was the most invasive. 12 week immobilization. Then only body weight rehab. Best advice I could give is talk to your surgeon and follow his advice. I'm recovering from foot surgery right now. 10 week recovery. I feel your pain. Good luck with surgery and God bless!
I agree with the others that recovery should be top priority. If you’re dead set on hunting anyway:
1. Have help
2. Use a tripod
3. Use a light recoil rifle with good bullets
A 22 centerfire with appropriate bullets and placement will take a deer without any problem.
Edit: you can also practice shooting wrong handed. It’s easier than you’d think.

I have had a total shoulder replacement. My doctor would not let me drive for 8 weeks after surgery. It took me 4 months before I could lift 10 pounds. 6 months and all is good. Find a good physical therapist that does shoulders and do what they tell you! I think shoulder replacement is easier than rota-tor repair, and less painful. I am about to have the other one replaced soon. Getting old sux

Short answer is no. Go hunting before your surgery or after you are all healed up.
there is too much potential for a fall or reinjure yourself.

I’ve had both rotator cuff repaired. Hunting was the LAST thing on my mind. I’ve hunted since I could carry a BB gun. Lol. There is always next year. Like previously stated it’s only a deer Get better so you can enjoy many more seasons down the road. Yes listen and do what physical therapy tells you no matter how it hurts. Imho Good luck. 👍
I’m a little surprised /confused by some of the comments here. I’ve had both shoulders completely replaced. The right one in 2010 and the left in 2021. Each one by a different surgeon. Both of them had me start therapy immediately, like the next day! Neither surgeon had the joint immobilized but I do know the risk involved with reinjury. I would say do not take any chance with it!
Experience and hindsight tells me I have full range of motion for a reason. I don’t put any heavy torque on them anymore because they are temperamental. Too much will wear out the artificial joint too soon. I would not try anything like that until it is completely healed. Good luck and god bless.
