I don't understand optics at all

Check out the big pockets on Bypass!
Also when I was 16-17 working there I made like 150 a week. So yeah no deep pockets then. I wanted to go duck hunting for the first time and I had to buy an old Ithaca model 37 with a cracked stock for 50 bucks. I killed my first duck with it though. One shot one duck.

Leupold. They have, it the best resale value because their warranty is fully transferable. China made vortex? Nope, original purchaser only.
Not true. Not getting into an A vs B vs C scope manufacturer debate, but Vortex backs all their optics with their VIP warranty that is fully transferable and no original receipt is needed. Your fault, my fault, nobody's fault, Vortex covers their stuff.

OP, Understand that most shots on deer in GA are under 100 yards (50 yards is very realistic). A 3x9x40 scope will cover just about anything/anywhere you will hunt. With that being said, the super cheap scopes tend be hazy looking in real world situations. I hunted with a Bushnell from WalMart for years and killed many deer with 7.62x39 AR. I own several Vortex and Bushnell scopes and find them to be more than acceptable for GA hunting. Best way to check out scopes is to go into a store and pick them up and focus on an object somewhere in the store. Make sure to turn the diopter adjustment on back of scope (eye piece) to focus it for each scope and keep them all on the same power (I like 6). You very quickly will decide what you like for the money. Just make sure it isn't a rimfire (22lr) scope so you don't break it. For rings, I like the Nikon P Series since they give you a lot of options for mounting. Just make sure to use correct tightening torque on everything when you install them. More is not always better when installing scopes.

They have changed, then. They used to have a worthless, quibble warranty, and why I would never consider them. They are still just a contractor, and have no factory you can visit in the US, Leupold is happy to give you a tour of their USA manufacturing plant.

Seriously? Vortex is known for their warranty. That's why so many folks are die hard Vortex fanboys and they have grown to be one of the top optics manufacturers so quickly. I believe you are thinking of someone else.

I think it applies to all now, but with a couple huge exceptions:
1. Not a lifetime warranty on electronics
2. Excludes "Unfortunately, these warranties do not apply if the product has been modified, misused or has been damaged by accident, abuse, or misapplication."

Vortex warranties their electronics the same as the optic itself and no exclusion for the rest. Plenty of stories out there for proof. Vortex simply does no cover loss or theft (no one does) DELIBERATE DAMAGE, or simply cosmetic damage with no functionality loss.

I am not saying that Vortex is the best brand in the world, Vortex or bust, etc, but their warranty is certainly top tier and they back it up.

I worked at Wiley outdoors sports when I was a kid. A guy came in looking for a rifle and a scope for a hunt. He said I want something dependable so I asked what he was after. He said elk so I picked him up a 338 win mag remington 700 and put a swarovski scope on it and bore sighted it. I said you need to take it to the range and sight it in which I understand he did with no issue. A few months later his buddy came into the shop and asked why I put such a expensive scope on his buddies rifle. I asked did he have any issues with it during the hunt to which he responded "No" and I said "That's why."

The one in Decatur?
