Several years ago my son was hit in rear in his 1966 Mustang and they sent out an adjuster that claimeed about 700 or so in damages, and we took it a Mustang specialty shop to get an estimate to do it right and in talking with the insurance company I gave them this other quote for 1800 and just mentioned Ken's name and they sent out a check for 1800 no more questions!

LOL, that's awesome when the mere mention of a name prompts action.

Also I suspect you won’t ever hear back from the police either

And if the cops actually go find the driver and talk to them , they will just say you’re lying , unless your paint is all over their car

Yeah, if no personal injury, time off work, hospital days, surgeries, the lawyers aren't going to be too interested. If it is just damage to your car, your insurance will cover it, then go after the "other guy" and his insurance company. Don't forget your "diminished value" part of the settlement to cover your loss of equity in the vehicle.
