I want to coyote hunt

right now im not looking to spend over $400. so i figured a decent call like the wildfire 2 and a light. im pretty much set on everything else i believe. would you recommend having any other calls besides the electric?

mouth call is something different if you feel like trying it that way. plus having it with you could allow for shooting other predators.
i mostly let the foxpro do the work.

one more thing i forgot. DONT GO SHOOTING THE FIRST SET OF EYES YOU SEE. i have called in everything under the sun. we have called in does! woulda been something to bust a doe between the eyes in july. i never shoot if i cant tell what it is. a guy got killed one year in mid ga over this.

what kind of mouth calls would you recommend? ill probably order the foxpro tomorrow. what kind of light do you use personally ive seen the ones that mount to the scope on your rifle. Have you tried those or do you take multiple lights depending?

Make sure of the set-up, check the area out and check for COYOTE SCATT, to many just go set-up and have not done any scouting, it will make difference between success, and just sitting and seeing nothing.

Only a suggestions......

Good luck and kill'em, it will help save your area small game.

Good advice so far. You need to setup preferably where they cannot circle around you. Personally I sit on top of a hill with 3 sides so they can't come around me. I use mouth calls (rabbit and fawn distress calls). If you are hunting at night, get yourself a good red light. I generally use a white light and keep it off the ground so I can just get a view of the periphery. When I see eyes or hear sound, I switch to the red light and bust them.

Fox pro is the only way to fly. Get a brightest legal light and red lens. I would recommend a nice ar15. You never know what's going to come to the call. You are sitting there at night, playing the sounds of a baby animal dying over a gut pile. What are you gonna do when every killer from 2 counties shows up? You run the risk of tangling with a large predator.

Thanks guys! Ill probably be using a remington vtr .308 until this summer when i can go buy me another rifle. Any brands of lights you fellas recommend? I was looking at the Pursuit x1 light that mounts on the scope of your rifle on BPS website its a 600 lumen light comes with the red and green lens. also, im assuming that yall try to find different places to hunt and im just curious if yall know of a way to find out who owns a property because there is some land next to ours that doesnt have anything on it and i never see people there and i would like to try and talk to them and see if i can get permission to hunt there because it is a huge field surrounded by woods. I seen the guy once a few years ago.

Been looking at doing the same thing.
Please let me know what you find out.

My buddies used to set up in the middle of a large field with about 6-9 people. 360 degrees of fun

Don't try this ! ^^^^^^^^

Coyote hunting in GA especially N Ga isn't like you see on TV. It is a lot harder. But here goes anyway.

Coyotes are very smart animals. They will almost always try to come in down wind. So hunt the wind for sure. I like hunting a couple hours before day break until about an hour after and an hour or so before dusk and 2-3 hours after. I never call the same place more than once every two weeks at a minimum and try to have a different set up each time I call a spot. Like I said coyotes are very smart and over calling them only educates them. If daylight I usually start off with light disterss sounds and slowly increase volume. At night I usually start off with some howels then move to distress sounds. I really like fox distress sounds at night. I have had lots of success with them this past winter.

As stated above if you haven't already bought a call spend the most you can. I have a FoxPro Hellfire and like it really well.

As far as lights I would go to walmart and look in the tool section and get the 2000 lumen LED spot light made by Stanley. Then buy a red lens for it. I have this same light I use for scanning and it works great. Some WalMarts have lens some don't and you will have to cut it down and make a cap to fit over the end of your light. $49 and your in business. I ordered a Cred I think it is light off line as well. It is a red buld LED and I have it atached to my scope for shooting. From my research it is the same company that makes Kill Lights and others as well. Think we paid $45-$50 for these and they came with light, lithium batteries, charger and mount to mount on scope. I have a buddy that has two Kill Lights and can't tell the difference between the two.

Check out the FoxPro and predator masters forums. Lots of info there and as with most forums nice guys.

Not a fan of the .17HMR for yotes wind is to much of an issue with it and the longer the distance the greater the chance of hitting one and it run off way to far to recover, seen it many times. I have seen plenty dropped in its tracks by a .17 HMR and plenty more run off never to be found. Not that that is a bad thing with the amount of coyotes GA has but I kinda like to be able to take pics and all that not just tell stories. By the way I also have a .17HMR and love it, just not for coyotes. P1010296 - Copy.jpg
