Not really. If you are going contract, you get a ton of write offs that you need to take advantage of. Down side is, you will need a CPA.

I went straight from the military to LE so let me just to shoot you straight.
1. No one on this board or anywhere else can expedite you into a job in LE. It's a time consuming endeavor that takes the time that it takes. It's just a lengthy process for obvious reasons.
2. You can't have your cake and eat it too. You what a job in LE? Then you go where the jobs are. If its close to home then good for you. Most won't be in the beginning. By limiting yourself to close to home agencies then you are really going to be playing small odds of getting hired.
3. You want a job in LE then treat it like applying to colleges. Apply EVERYWHERE that is even a remote possibility of getting on. Your competing against applicants right out of the military with combat experience, people with college degrees (often preferred by LE agencies) and other officers from other departments that already have their POST mandate and experience.
Yeah, APD might be far away but I'll bet if they called you right now and said your hired you'd be there Monday morning at 0530 no problem. You see what I'm getting at?
The hiring process is sort of a insight to the job itself. It takes up a lot of time and requires a lot of you personally. Its not for everyone. Good luck.
