Put in your applications and get hired like an honorable american, based on your qualifications... quit seeking a position of authority. It will ruin you to the core.

not looking for a position of authority looking to provide a service to my community I enjoyed working for the fire dept but got layed off a year and half ago when the new budget came out and they were told to cut $60,000 out of it so me and 2 other part timers hit the chopping block. ive always had interest in law enforcment and they have a higher turnover rate than fire depts its easy to find openings.

I am a CPA. Find out if you are going to get a W-2 or a 1099 at the end of the year or at least by January 31 of 2014. Let's start from there. I am also in Human Resources. WC1911guy provided some very good advice in my opinion regardless of the type of job you are looking for. You also mentioned something about taxes eating you alive. I don't know what that means more than taxes eating everyone alive. As a a true independent contractor, you may pay less taxes. If you have been paid off the books for years....you will surely draw attention to yourself if you start filing as an IC. Just one man's humble opinion. Good luck.
ill be getting a 1099 before now its been w2's and ive been on the map pay my taxes and have always gotten a refund

Any local community college probably has a criminal justice programs. Any courses you complete will look good in the resume. Check with any 4 year colleges about online courses in same area. You've got the lay of the land, and you can see that anything you can do to buff up that resume will help.

You might check with some mid-size cities. Athens Clarke County always has openings because of high turnover due to low pay. ACCPD is basically the minor league for Gwinnett and Cobb. Also any good size sheriff's office is usually looking for jailers, which is an entry position a lot of current LEO have used.

Don't take it personally, but it sort of reads like you are trying to cherry pick when there's been a crop failure. I'm surprised you received an offer for a state job, and I would have thought twice about turning it down. You're not exactly making a three year commitment to the Marines.
I attend GNTC now but have gone for business management and am only a semester from my associates degree

this comment really bothered me so i feel like i need to address this further u dont know me so let me tell u alil about my dedication to serving my community i volunteer alot of my free time to programs in my community i volunteer at the harvest outreach at habitat for humanity and through multiple programs that my church has going on such as providing meals to needy families to landscaping yards for the elderly so u dont know me til u do dont say im looking for a position of authority u dont know what i already do and how much i get out of giving i feel like what makes a life worth living is what u can do for others and i dont think i am better than anyone because i do these things thats not what im trying to sound like i enjoy doing these things and feeling like im giving back its just how i was raised i know there are alot of people around here who work for local depts who are doing to because they get off on the authority but that isnt me. Also the main reason i ask for help on here is because in my area there is still alot of the good ole boy system in place and pretty much the only way to get a job in public service is you have to know someone everyone that i knew in these positions are retired now. just felt like i needed to clear the air on this abit thanks
