In the market for a new hunting rifle... looking for suggestions

Deer beg to be shot with a 30-06 never over or undergunned. As far as the rifle the Savage 110-116 series of rifles are the most modern, feature laden and accurate factory offerings available. It takes several hundred in aftermarket to bring a Remington up to a factory Savage. I'll agree that a Leupold VX2 or better 3-9x40 is the cats pajamas. Leupold rings and bases as well.

wow thanks guys, ive been researching that leupold vx2. seems like the glass im gonna go with.
One of these...

For under $800, no way you're going to do better. Every critter in Georgia will be shaking in it's boots!

Words of wisdom except I would go for the 308WIN, Leupold glass can't be beat for the price...matter of fact most of the more expensive glassware can't stack-up. Leupold twist-in rings are awesome.

^^^^^ Dual Dovetail
It's good stuff-
Only thing else I would consider is a 4-12x40 for those gas line or big open south Ga hunting conditions

I really like Tikka, and if I bought another it would be in 6.5x55 Swede. Put a Nikon Monarch on top and you're done.

Compare the VXII to the Nikon Monarch. The Monarch has the same warranty, better coatings, and better durability (one piece tube vs. a two piece tube).
