If you stay in tourist areas people will probably speak English. If you stray away from that, no, people probably won't speak English. Most visitors stay in the tourist areas and have no troubles.

I was talking about Indonesia, per my response to NewLeaf, who was thinking of the PI. I get around a good bit. Areas with some tourism are fine for English in Indonesia. Off the beaten path, it might present problems. English is an official language in the Philippines. There won’t be much problem there. Everyone in the world seems to love Krispy Kreme except New England yankees.
