Indoor shooting range….

Growing up, if you shot inside the house, momma gave you an ass whoopin' then you got another one when dad got home.

Shooting on indoor ranges all through high school and college I had grown to despise them. Especially indoor ranges open to the public. When that's been my only real option, I practiced a lot less.

o.0 Back when phone books were a thing they made great back stops for boolets. Leave my Red truck out of this........................ ;)
I put a copier box in the office next to the printer and had folks stack bad docs in the box standing on end. I a couple of weeks, I had a bullet trap about 17” deep. It would easily stop 38 and 9mm when testing suppressors

Only shooting indoors I did was with an air rifle when I was a kid. Shouldn't have done that. At the indoor range, there's always this guy shooting a large magnum right next to you. And nowadays with the cost, that's a no for me. Appears to me you have to be super rich to do anything anymore

Aside from the cost, I hate the NOISE of other people's gunfire at indoor ranges.
Even if I'm just shooting a .22, a 38, and a 9mm, the guy two lanes over from me is going to be shooting a 14" barreled AR or AK pistol with an arm brace...

... or a 12 gauge with slug loads.... sounds like a grenade going off in that all-steel and concrete box (room).

I try my hardest to shoot on a weekday if I go indoors. Weekends bring out the worst behavior in any establishment, not just gun ranges. Shorty AR's suck to deal with in an indoor range in terms of noise, but I can't claim innocence because I've shot .357 revolvers plenty of times in indoor ranges. I was testing some new really hot defense load .357's last week and a dad brought in his teenage daughter to the lane next to me to teach her to shoot for the first time. I felt awful cooking off those fireball .357's, watching her jump like a hare every time I shot, but I wasn't about to let my time run down on my lane waiting on them to do their thing 😂

Or the S&W 500mag.....

We have a 100 yard indoor shooting range up here that runs 35 bucks an hour. Sure is nice in the summer time.

One of the four brothers In grew up with and have been a friends since we were in diapers lives on a big plot of land. He keeps up a 350 yard range that sure is nice to shoot there. It's manicured like a gold course, just beautiful out there but I won't go shoot in the humid heat. I just won't do it. That isn't enjoyable to me.

When I get the urge in the summer months I hit the in indoor job. There is very rarely anyone there when I go and I don't have sweat pouring down into my eyes while I am trying look through the scope. It's worth it to me for a little meditation and fun. Heck anything you do these days that offers any kind of entertainment cost 30 bucks and that's cheap fun. Well worth it! Go to Six Flags and tally up at the end of the day and shooting is a lot more enjoyable to me. When it's nice and cool outside that mud bank will do any day of the week. 👍
