Hello everyone

So yesterday I picked up a Mac10 pistol at a gun show.
When I got home to play with my new toy, I realized that I couldn't cock the bolt more than about a quarter of the way back. It doesn't go back far enough to even chamber a round. I stripped it and I manually cocked the hammer back, which was odd to me because the trigger had to be pulled for it to stay back, and I reassembled it. The bolt was able to be cocked all the way back like it should, but when I pulled the trigger, I couldn't cock it back again. Does anyone have any idea what might be wrong? I'm hoping that it's just me being dumb and not knowing how to work the thing...
:help:
If this helps at all, the side of the receiver says:
INGRAM M10A1 CAL. 9MM.45A.
MILITARY ARMAMENT CORP.
STEPHENVILLE. TX. USA

Any help is appreciated, thank you.

If no one here can help you, you may want to try someone on the uzitalk forum. They have a mac10 group and some very knowledgable people on FA and semi mac's.

You mentioned a hammer so for sure it's a semi automatic, closed-bolt "Texas Mac".

Pull the front retaining pin, the upper receiver and the mag... and if not already, de-cock and release the hammer by pulling the trigger, but guide it and don't let it slap forward.

With your finger off the trigger and the lower receiver's open side facing up and its front facing your belly, you should be able to grasp both sides of the lower with your hands and using both thumbs to force the hammer back to "lock and cock".

I believe you've already verified that it locks/cocks with the trigger pulled... good, it's supposed to.

I've read that the Texas Mac's design made it difficult to pull the bolt back and lock the hammer, so it's normal.

Anyway, the basic operation of that model is once the hammer's locked back, your bolt scoops up a bullet and chambers that round. The hammer strikes a pin on the back of the bolt. The new MPA are nearly the same in design, but with slight differences in machining the internals and their design.

If it works as I've said ^^ above ^^ but you are still unable to draw back on the bolt, then the problem could be a bolt or a magazine (or both) mismatch.

Which caliber is your "Texas Mac" currently setup for, 9 or 45?

9mm requires a its barreled upper, bolt assembly, magazine and mag-well adapter, whereas the grip is standard in 45.. but you need its specific barreled upper, bolt assembly and grease gun type magazine.

If 9mm, do you have a magwell adapter installed in the grip?

Have you verified which caliber barrel & bolt is installed?

It is a 9mm. I did what you said with the hammer, and I could not get it to lock back. Maybe the hammer is worn and I need a new one?

who did you buy it from... I assume if it was a vendor, then you should have a receipt and contact info.
