Interesting Walmart experience today.....

LOL. I had the same damn problem a few weeks ago at one of their self checkouts. The damn drone working there pressed some buttons and REVIEWED the self checkout scanners little camera to be sure I didn't try to bag something I didn't scan! The nerve! She claims it was to verify it wasn't the scanner but I call BS. I scanned that damn item and bagged it and it still needed authorization...

There's plenty of videos on YouTube about the self checkout being a trap for the shopper. I can see how it easily could be. I really hate them but they're almost unavoidable now. And at the same time I see where stores especially Wal-Mart are whining about the losses and "shrinkage" . Well...let me see how do I put it again? Oh yeah ...****'em! They COULD put actual cashiers on registers and a good bit of the shrinkage would stop. But I guess their corporate bean counters have decided that the shrinkage numbers are lower than paying hourly employees.

I’d bet a lot of their shrinkage is underpaid, overworked drones taking stuff out the back door to supplement their income.

I'd just gone full chimpout and stormed out.

One can avoid these little inconveniences by using a register that has an actual person running it.
A little wait in line, then you can chat briefly with an employee, perhaps brightening their day.
On the search and seizure exiting, when they ask to see receipt, I just say, “Thanks, I already checked, it’s all there” and keep walking.

If she would have gotten attitude with me when I said it was BS I probably would have. She stayed quiet though and just authorized it and walked back to her station to get back on TikTok or whatever they do. And I wasn't even scanning anything of value. It was a Valentine's day card and some box of chocolates.
