Iowa Cop Shoots Dog

True, but is that the fault of the average person, or the dog owner? Realizing what you realize about the average person not knowing much.

If a 100+ pound dog approaches me with an aggressive posture, I’m willing to shoot the thing. Damn getting bit or mauled by a friggin dog. I love dogs but I love myself more.

I saw my Dad put a bullet into the ground safely in front of an aggressive acting mastiff one morning when it approached him, growling and barking on our front porch. The dog ran and we never saw it again. He didn’t want to kill it and I don’t blame him, but what if it had been someone other than my Dad? We will never know.

I support and commend policing. This is an example of militarized action covered as policing. The officer used force of action and violence to threaten citizens (a woman and 2 very young children in their own yard and if their is more it is not evident here) The dog perceived a threat when the officer exited the car and came toward the kids. The dog did what is instinctual. The officer came there to threaten and use deadly force then did - he also clearly set up to kill the people as well as the dog if they did not comply with his commands. His intent may have been to goad the family into a reaction so he could kill them as well. As a soldier in an occupied territory he did his job and survived but as a policeman he terrorized a family. This is sad very sad.

I'm gonna refrain from comment, I do have a question though for anyone here with LEO background or specific knowledge. If I shot at a police dog for whatever reason, I assume the response of whatever officers were around would be to shoot me. If the situation is reversed like this - private property on which the officer is trespassing and the dog decides to defend its family/home, officer shoots - fair game to mag dump on said officer?

Just trying to understand the rules, although I'm about 99.99% sure I know the answer (sadly)
