Iowa Cop Shoots Dog

Shooting was justified? In what world if that was a citizen shooting someone else's dog would that be considered justified. Only if another person's dog ran up to you on your property and acted aggressive. And truthfully, if this citizen had that same body cam footage, I doubt a civil case would be in their favor anyway. Citizens held to higher standards than the police. Supposedly referred to as "(insert local area)'s finest"

I'm gonna refrain from comment, I do have a question though for anyone here with LEO background or specific knowledge. If I shot at a police dog for whatever reason, I assume the response of whatever officers were around would be to shoot me. If the situation is reversed like this - private property on which the officer is trespassing and the dog decides to defend its family/home, officer shoots - fair game to mag dump on said officer?

Just trying to understand the rules, although I'm about 99.99% sure I know the answer (sadly)

Again, the police are given more leeway to kill citizens than the citizenry. When they're "supposed" to be the ones trained and capable of handling those kind of situations. Even worse, there's essentially no way a person kills a cop even in the most "justified" of circumstances where they don't end up in prison for something or another.

I don't hate the police. I appreciate the good folks who would come to my aid if I called. But with all these policy decisions forcing good cops out and the revealing of the prevalence of people who should never be allowed to wear a badge in the first place, it makes it hard to trust any of them at any time.

Also, end qualified immunity when the officer is found negligent or criminal. Don't make the taxpayers foot the bill for the civil suit.

The out come was sad and should of never happen. We can come up with a thousand shoulda woulda coulda but if the dog did bite the cop the dog would of been put down any way. I blame the owners of the dog. What if it was you just walking by, you going to take a few bite to the legs and arms before you pull and fire?????
Exactly right! The owners are to blame. It's way too easy to blame the cop.

What could a responsible dog owner have done? Many more things than a cop could have done
1) Invisible fence collar?
2) Leash?
3) Tell the cop to wait, let me put my dogs away if you are coming onto my property?
4) Grab the dog?
5) Tell the kids to grab the dog?

I used to work delivery when I was younger. I know that as I go through my routes, I step onto different properties and carry the scent to others. It's only once a Bull Terrier crashed through a screen fence when I rang a door bell. I knew my days were numbered. The worst ones were the little dogs that people always say...they dont bite...and they DO. Been bitten more than once.

Police are supposedly trained to de escalate situations but all to often make things worse! He should have gave them time to restrain the dog before he got out of the damn car. F@@ck the popo they’re not always right, and they will step on your rights
