Is it safe to close this gap under an oven?

On the commercial side, if it needs an air gap, the manual says so about 10 times. It may also come with a vent strip as the microwave above has in the pic.

Most residential appliances come with a zero clearance requirement, or the manual says leave a clearance. Most cabinets have the gap because they are fabricated prior to the oven arriving, and it will not fit with the tiny legs if the opening is made to just the size of the oven front.

I will bet you can put your finger under there when oven is on and it will barely be warm.

You may need that Gap so when you open the oven the edge of the door swings down. If you simply throw a piece of trim in there it might get crushed by the door when you open it all the way. I don't think there's a problem with ventilation but I think you're going to have interference with the door when you open it. If I'm looking at the right Gap.
