I have not filled my own taxes for over 25 years. Now my son just got his first W2 and I don't want to use my accountant for this because he will probably charge me more than the kid will get back. Is there a way to just file a simple return online without a $50 software cost?

Yes. Go to the IRS website. Click on file for free. They have software providers approved by the IRS. I have been using them for years to do my taxes and my mothers. It is only free if you access it through the IRS website. Pick the provider that you meet their requirement on. I have used several different ones over the years. The compaines that participate can vary from year to year.

Looks like the way to go. Thanks!

There’s a guy outside the QT on Bankhead Hwy that will file them for free if you just give him your name, social security number, address and W-2s.

I have used turbotax every year for simple 1040, 1040A , Ez, for years…. It works good. I think its like $20 to actually Efile it or something but its not much if anything.
