From the little knowledge I know, .223 Barrel is different then 5.56. Yes they are the same cartridge, but different pressure.

Please look into .223 Wylde Barrels for AR-15’s. They are capable of utilizing both.

Not sure how long ago but most companies making AR’s have gone to barrels that are capable of taking both cartridges. These are called Wylde.
