Welcome to Odt.. great rifle you have ..its the 39d which was made between 1971 to 1973 the first 2 serial numbers should be the year it was made.. the 39a was made in the 1960's the 39d had a 20"slim barrel and the white ring in the stock grip......It's a great collectable rifle worth every dollar you are asking...

They were made in '71 & '73 and there were 26,979 manufactured. In the chronology chart is says in '71 "Model 39D introduced". In '73 it says "Model 39D reintroduced without white line spacers and pistol grip cap. They are a model "D" only and not a Mountie. The Mountie has a straight stock with 20 inch barrel. This info copied from a Marlin fact sheet.

Item Description: 1971 Marlin 39D lever action .22 rifle
These are relatively rare lever action rifles. This rifle was made in 1971, and around 16,000 were made. It is a mountie with a pistol grip stock. The rifle is not in new, out of the box condition. It is an older rifle that is in very good shape and performs well. The bluing on the barrel does have some imperfections, but again it is not in horrible shape. Pretty firm on the price. Please email questions, and I can send more pictures. local meet up

I have heard them referred to as a "mountie." I am by no means an expert on these particular rifles so if I am wrong, please correct me. However, I believe they are referred to as a "mountie" because of the 20 inch barrel and the "pistol" styled grip, but it does not have mountie on the barrel.
