How the Short Recoil System Works

1. Locking: When the shotgun is fired, the barrel and bolt are locked together.
2. Short Recoil: The locked barrel and bolt move rearward together a short distance, less than the total length of a cartridge.
3. Unlocking: After this short travel, the bolt unlocks from the barrel, and the barrel stops moving.
4. Ejection: The bolt continues to the rear, extracting and ejecting the spent casing.
5. Cycling: A recoil spring then returns the bolt forward to chamber a new cartridge, and the barrel returns to its original position.
