What is your concern?
concern is the ATF may change the rules again.... like how to measure if the pistol has an adjustable brace. If the pistol is under 26 inches, with brace fully extended, one should be safe. I would like to have a 10.5 upper with an adjustable brace that measures 26 inches or less when the brace is fully extended. It may not even be possible, but that is what I am looking for at this point.

Again it doesn't matter what the oal l is on a pistol!
The 26" oal is taken into account if you put a stock on a rifled barrel gun with less than 16.5" barrel. Total has to be greater than 26" oal or its considered a SBR.

Measured from tip of barrel with out flash hider ( unless it's pinned) to the longest point on the stock. FULLY EXTENDED

26" oal doesn't mean anything on a pistol!

it does it you want to put a vertical grip instead of a hand stop on the rail. OAL < 26” with a vertical foregrip is considered a “firearm” and not a “pistol,” so the VFG does not break any laws based on what I have found online.

Nobody said anything about a vfg. He’s taking about the 26” rule which only applies to weapons with a stock. It doesn’t matter if it’s got a 30” barrel if it has a brace or blade.
