I've got an 8mm (7.92 X 57) Gew98 Mauser for sale. Amberg barrel and receiver, c. 1915. I've owned it now for nearly 14 years and I've never fired it, so that tells me it's time to move it to someone who may better appreciate it.
It's non-numbers matching. The barrel and receiver are stamped 9161, the bolt is stamped 7610, the underplate is stamped 5300 and the buttstock plate is stamped 7976. It's got some random (to me, anyway) numbers written on the left side of the buttstock and the right side has been crudely inscribed 'JJ', along with some other markings if you look close enough.

I does not appear the barrel has been shortened, but the stock appears to have been shaved down in the front, from comparing with pictures I've seen online.
The barrel, receiver, bolt and stock are in fine shape. There is some superficial rust on the outside of the barrel around the front sight, and it's pitted pretty bad (but some of the "pitting" looks suspiciously like someone placed the barrel in a vice at some point in its history).

I had this gun "gone through" by the smiths at Big Woods Goods way back when the were upstairs in that two-story strip mall, before we lived in this house, so pre-'08. They stripped it, cleaned and oiled it, function checked it and gave it a clean bill of health. Then I put it back in its case and it's never seen daylight since.
Nice, numbers matching mil-surp versions of Gew 98s and k98s fetch $400-up, sometimes much, much more. This is not one of those. But it's a solid shooter (so I'm told), with a little history and a fair amount of character markings.
Price is $200. I'm located pretty near the Hamilton Mill Walmart in far NE Gwinnett (I-85 exit 120), but I work in Doraville and can meet a buyer near there or anywhere in between.
LMK if you want to see more pictures of anything. Best way to get hold of me is to reply here (I'll subscribe to responses) or PM me through this board.
